Writing during school vacation

I don't fight change; I welcome it if it will help me to be more productive, more disciplined, more focus and more passionate about achieving my writing goals.

The past two months I've been working with a new routine to accommodate my husband and son being home on vacation. Everything changes when school closes because they are teachers. And when they are home they are talkative and they clown around a lot. I have to contend with the television being on all day and they are up and down and back and forth, having a great time and enjoying their vacation.

Usually that kind of high energy distracts me and throws off my writing and at the end of the day, I feel guilty for not being as productive as I should have been. Strangely, that was not the case this vacation. Even before school closed, I altered my routine to accommodate the anticipated flurry of activity and it worked out quite well.

I didn't accomplish all that I planned but my To-Do list sports enough red ticks to make me proud of myself. I did very well, all things considered. I was able to ward of distractions and deal with interruptions without falling victim to them. I boosted my ability to find peace within when there was chaos without but talking myself into pushing a little harder and writing my way through the temptation to procrastinate.

From now one, I'll think twice about complaining about lack of time and interruptions. I can accomplish my writing goals with focus, discipline and a smart plan.

Were you able to achieve your writing goals during the school vacation? How?

Well, I can't say I've been very faithful this summer. We homeschool and have taken a long summer off.

We don't usually take so much time off, but with my husband gone over seas, it was necessary for my mental health.

I now have approximately 10 tens to get some semblance of order in this house and getting up at 5:00 a.m. will give me some time to focus on my writing.

I need to clarify my goals. That will help me. Then structuring my day and keeping with that schedule as much as I can will also help.

I don't know where people get the idea that you "can" have it all as a mom and working woman.

Personally, I think something always suffers. I try very hard to keep my children from suffering as I feel they are my most important job.

Yet, I tend to drop way too many balls. Oh well. I can only pick them up and try again.

Love you blog Miss Cheryl. :)

Imagine that! I'm writing an article on "Having it all" for my column. It will be run on Sunday 7th September, but you could catch at Associated Content before that,(by Tuesday).

I'm not revealing anything yet.(:)

Meanwhile Mags dearest, continue to cultivate your hiatus to reap a bountiful harvest of all that's good for you, your family, your blog and whatever dreams still live in your heart.

God bless.

Cheryl
